Έπειτα από ένα ατύχημα, η Μαρία Αλίκη, μια αποτυχημένη ηθοποιός σε αναζήτηση μεγάλων ρόλων, εισέρχεται σε μία πραγματικότητα όπου καλείται να παίξει όλους τους πιθανούς ρόλους που θα μπορούσε να της έχει χαρίσει η ζωή, αν είχε κάνει διαφορετικές επιλογές.

Το σενάριο υπογράφουν ο Άγγελος Φραντζής, η Κατερίνα Μπέη και ο Κωστής Σαμαράς, ενώ η μουσική φέρει την υπογραφή του Σταμάτη Κραουνάκη. Ύστερα από τον θρίαμβο της «Ευτυχίας», ο σκηνοθέτης επιχειρεί ένα ακόμη τολμηρό βήμα.

Λίγα λόγια για το σκηνοθέτη

Γεννήθηκε το 1970 στην Αθήνα και σπούδασε σκηνοθεσία στο Ανώτατο Ινστιτούτο Τεχνών των Βρυξελλών. Το 1990 σκηνοθέτησε την πρώτη μικρού μήκους ταινία του, την Μικρές ιστορίες γι' ανθρώπους και πορτοκάλια. Ακολούθησαν άλλες τρεις ταινίες μικρού μήκους, οι Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? (1992), Δεκαεννιά (1995) και Τρύπιος κόσμος (1997). Το σκηνοθετικό του ντεμπούτο σε ταινία μεγάλου μήκους ήταν η Polaroid, το 2000. Οι επόμενες ταινίες του ήταν οι Το Όνειρο του Σκύλου (2005), Μέσα στο Δάσος (2010) και Σύμπτωμα (2015).

Το 2018 ολοκληρώθηκε η ταινία του Ακίνητο Ποτάμι, η οποία διαδραματίζεται στη Σιβηρία. Για τη δουλειά του στη ταινία ο Άγγελος Φραντζής έλαβε το βραβείο σκηνοθεσίας στα Βραβεία Ελληνικής Ακαδημίας Κινηματογράφου το 2019. Λίγους μήνες μετά την πρεμιέρα του Ακίνητου Ποταμιού, ο Άγγελος Φραντζής σκηνοθέτησε την επόμενη ταινία του, την Ευτυχία, η οποία είναι βασισμένη στη ζωή της Ευτυχίας Παπαγιαννοπούλου.

Synopsis

Maria Aliki, a failed actress in search of big roles, after a fatal (or almost) accident, gets thrust into a reality where she is called to play all the possible parts that life could have given her if she had made different choices.

Has she passed out, died or is she dreaming? Trying to understand what is happening to her and find her way out to her real life, Maria Aliki finds herself trying to fit into roles that others seem to have designed for her.

A few words about the director

Angelos Frantzis was born in 1970 in Athens and studied film directing at INSAS in Brussels. He has made several short films and 7 feature films (Polaroid, A Dog's Dream, In the Woods, Symptom, Still River, My Name is Eftichia, Murphy’s law). His films have been awarded and screened at many international festivals (Rotterdam, Tallinn, Hong-Kong, Torino, Wroclaw, Sitges, Munich, Sao Paolo, Istanbul etc.) and he has received the director and best film awards at the Greek Film Academy Awards (Iris) for his films "Still River" and "My Name is Eftichia" respectively. He spent several years as a film critic, and his theoretical writings have been published in several publications and books. In recent years he has also been involved in mixed media projects (installations, performances, etc.). His mixed technique works have been presented, among others, at the Venice Biennale.

H Ελένη Αλεξανδράκη γεννήθηκε το 1957 στην Αθήνα. Σπούδασε κινηματογράφο στην Σορβόννη, Paris I, (License 1980) και στο National Film and TV School της Αγγλίας (Αποφοίτηση 1985). Είναι σεναριογράφος, σκηνοθέτης και παραγωγός ταινιών μυθοπλασίας και ντοκιμαντέρ του κινηματογράφου και της τηλεόρασης. Ταινίες της έχουν βραβευτεί στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό. Η παραγωγή των ταινιών της είναι πλούσια σε όγκο και σε ποικιλία θεμάτων. Oργανώνει επίσης στη Νίσυρο, στο ηφαίστειο, το ένα Φεστιβάλ Ηφαιστειάδα.

Synopsis

A few words about the director

Eleni Alexandrakis was born in 1957 in Athens. She studied film at the Sorbonne University, Paris I and at the National Film and TV School of England. She has written, directed and produced a few fiction films as well as documentaries among which: « A Drop in the Ocean» (fiction), « Easter is in the air» (documentary) « The Woman who longed for Home» (fiction) Angel and the Weightlifter (fiction). She has received many prizes in Greece and abroad. Her film « A Drop in the Ocean» was presented at the Forum of the Berlin Film Festival, in 1996, where Eleni got the Mionneto Film Award. The same film travelled in many festivals around the world where the main actress Amalia Moutoussi got a few awards. In 2005 « The Woman who Missed Home » got a Special Mention at the Rhodes Eco Film Festival and Nicos Papazoglou got a State Award for the Music of the Film. In 2009 « Angel and the Weightlifter » got a Gold Remi Award in WorldFest Houston. Her last feature length documentary is "Kostis Papagiorgis, the sweetest misanthrope" that got the Greek Association Critics’Awards at the 20th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival.

SYNOPSIS

Roots of an ancient Greek tragedy blossom when a patriarch confronts a fateful decision involving his son and the boy he raised after a long-standing feud escalates to murder. 

In a village in the Greek countryside, Takis prepares the opening of his new butcher shop. One day before the inauguration, his son Pavlos kills the neighbour who claims part of their land. The only witness is Christos, a young man from Albania whom Takis has had with him since childhood.

ΣΥΝΟΨΗ

Σε ένα χωριό της ελληνικής επαρχίας η οικογένεια ενός κρεοπώλη ετοιμάζεται για τα εγκαίνια του νέου καταστήματός του. Μια μέρα πριν τα εγκαίνια, ο γιος του, Παύλος, σκοτώνει τον γείτονα που διεκδικεί μέρος της γης τους. Μοναδικός μάρτυρας ο Χρήστος, ένας νεαρός από την Αλβανία, τον οποίο ο Τάκης έχει μαζί του από μικρό.

Η πρώτη μεγάλου μήκους ταινία του Δημήτρη Νάκου είναι μία ωμή καταγραφή της έμφυτης και ενστικτώδους ανάγκης του ανθρώπου για συγκάλυψη και αποποίηση της ευθύνης. Ένα ακόμη σκοτεινό πορτρέτο της ελληνικής περιφέρειας, με ήρωες τόσο ακατέργαστους που μοιάζουν σκληρά ρεαλιστικοί.

SYNOPSIS

A documentary on the life and death of Nikos Ploumpidis, one of the leading cadres of the Greek Communist Party (KKE) during the World War II and the anti-Nazi resistance, arrested by the Greek post-Civil War authoritarian state in 1952, tried and executed in August 1954. Ploumpidis’ arrest followed the earlier arrest, trial and execution of Nikos Beloyannis, globally known as the "Man with the Carnation", on charges of treason for the transmission of information to the Soviet Union, after the criminalisation of the Greek Communist Party during the Civil War. Both arrests and trials were considered a major success for the Greek regime in a period of intensifying Cold War polarisation. While, however, Beloyannis died as a hero, during Ploumpidis’ trial the exiled Central Committee of the Greek Communist Party accused him of being a secret police spy and British agent, a snitch, and expelled him from the party. Ploumpidis died alone, slandered by enemies and friends, dishonored. The mild rehabilitation of Ploumpidis by the Greek Communist Party in 1958, after the de-Stalinization of KKE did not heal the trauma Ploumpidis’ tragic story left not only on his family, but on the collective memory of the Greek society.
Personal drama and collective destiny co-shape this Promethean hero, who seems straight out of an ancient tragedy.

Η ταινία είναι κατάλληλη για παιδιά από 16 ετών. 

ΣΥΝΟΨΗ

Δύο πολιτικές δίκες και εκτελέσεις έχουν αφήσει ανεξίτηλο ίχνος στην μετεμφυλιακή Ελλάδα. Η δίκη του Νίκου Μπελογιάννη και η δίκη του Νίκου Πλουμπίδη. Ηγετικά στελέχη και οι δύο του παράνομου τότε Κομμουνιστικού Κόμματος Ελλάδας θα βρεθούν στη δίνη βίαιων συγκρούσεων και παθών. Οι περγαμηνές τους από την Εθνική Αντίσταση κατά των κατακτητών δεν θα σταθούν ικανές να τους σώσουν από το εκτελεστικό απόσπασμα παρά την κατακραυγή για τις εκτελέσεις και τη διεθνή κινητοποίηση για την απονομή χάριτος, κυρίως στην περίπτωση του Μπελογιάννη. Η Ιστορία όμως δεν στάθηκε το ίδιο ακριβοδίκαια και για τους δύο. Ο μεν Μπελογιάννης έφυγε τιμημένος και έγινε ίνδαλμα για τους συντρόφους του ανά τον κόσμο, ο δε Πλουμπίδης έφυγε μόνος, συκοφαντημένος από εχθρούς και φίλους, ατιμασμένος. Αν και στιγματισμένος και εξοβελιστέος από το κόμμα του ο Πλουμπίδης αρνήθηκε να αποκηρύξει τις αρχές του και να υπογράψει δήλωση μετανοίας, κάτι που θα του έσωζε τη ζωή. Υπερασπίστηκε στη δίκη με πάθος την ιδεολογία του και το κόμμα του παρ’ όλο που το τελευταίο τον είχε άδικα καταγγείλει σαν χαφιέ και προβοκάτορα και εκτελέστηκε ζητωκραυγάζοντας υπέρ του ΚΚΕ την ίδια ώρα που οι σύντροφοί του έβγαζαν ανακοίνωση πως η εκτέλεση ήταν σκηνοθετημένη και ο προδότης απολαμβάνει τα αργύρια της προδοσίας του στην Αμερική. Μετά το θάνατο του Στάλιν, την καθαίρεση του Ζαχαριάδη από την ηγεσία του Κόμματος και κυρίως μετά το 20ο Συνέδριο του ΚΚΣΕ και τις αλλαγές που δρομολογούνται στο διεθνές κομμουνιστικό κίνημα, θα γίνει μια δειλή αποκατάσταση του Νίκου Πλουμπίδη που ανακοινώνεται ιδιωτικά στη σύζυγό του και χρόνια αργότερα μια δημοσίευση σ’ ένα περιορισμένης κυκλοφορίας κομματικό έντυπο. Ουσιαστικά ο Πλουμπίδης παραμένει ένα ανεπούλωτο τραύμα για τον κόσμο της αριστεράς -τουλάχιστον για κάποιο κομμάτι της- και σίγουρα αν όχι μελανή, θολή σελίδα της ιστορίας της. Το προσωπικό δράμα και το συλλογικό πεπρωμένο συνδιαμορφώνουν αυτόν τον προμηθεϊκό ήρωα που μοιάζει να πηγάζει από αρχαία τραγωδία.

Μεταξύ των διακρίσεων που έλαβε είναι το 1ο Κρατικό Βραβείο Ποιότητας για τις ταινίες "ΤΗ ΝΥΧΤΑ ΠΟΥ Ο ΦΕΡΝΑΝΤΟ ΠΕΣΣΟΑ ΣΥΝΑΝΤΗΣΕ ΤΟΝ ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟ ΚΑΒΑΦΗ" και “HΜΕΡΟΛΟΓΙΑ ΚΑΤΑΣΤΡΩΜΑΤΟΣ–ΓΙΩΡΓΟΣ ΣΕΦΕΡΗΣ” και το Βραβείο Διεθνούς Ένωσης Κριτικών (FIPRESCI) στο 8ο Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Θεσσαλονίκης για το φιλμ "ΓΙΑΝΝΗΣ ΜΟΡΑΛΗΣ”. Υπήρξε εκδότης του περιοδικού τέχνης "ΓΡΑΦΗ" και κείμενά του για τον κινηματογράφο έχουν δημοσιευτεί στα περιοδικά «Γραφή», «Σύγχρονος Κινηματογράφος» και «Γράμματα και Τέχνες”. Την περίοδο από 2009 έως 2010 οργάνωσε στο Εργαστήρι Ποίησης του Ιδρύματος Τάκης Σινόπουλος τον κύκλο εκδηλώσεων «Ποιητές στην οθόνη». Έχει εκδώσει μία ποιητική συλλογή με τίτλο «Αλλαγή αιώνα» από τις εκδόσεις ΑΓΡΑ. Τέλος, είναι συνιδρυτής από το 1988 μαζί με τους Θάνο Λαμπρόπουλο και Γιάννη Βαρβαρίγο της εταιρείας παραγωγής ΠΕΡΙΠΛΟΥΣ.

WISHBONE (2024) by Penny PANAGIOTOPOULOU

On Tuesday, 9 December at 19:00 and on Wednesday, 10 December at 21:00 the film WISHBONE (Greece, 2024, 123 min, colour) co-written and directed by Penny Panayotopoulou will be screened in cinema Utopia, in the original Greek version with English subtitles. Not suitable for children under 18. 

SYNOPSIS

Costas has recently become a security guard in a public hospital. When his older brother suddenly dies, he not only has to take care of his
little niece Niki, but also has to find the money to cover the debts left by his brother. The family home is in danger of being seized. He gets caught up in a juicy scheme: making up medical malpractice cases out of nothing. When a doctor from his hospital, unjustly accused, appears at his home to ask him for help, he implodes under the pressure.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Penny Panayotopoulou is a writer, director, producer, born in Athens. She studied political sciences in the Athens University and cinema in the Polytechnic of Central London.

Her debut feature film Hard Goodbyes: My Father (2002) premiered in the 55th Locarno Film Festival, where it was awarded the Leopard for Best Actor, and the ecumenical jury prize.

In the Thessaloniki International Film Festival the film won the FIPRESCI Prize (for its acute symbiosis of daily routine and metaphorical sense of life),  the award for  Best Actor,  and the Greek Critics Union Award. From The Greek  ministry of culture (Greek Academy Awards ) it received the  Best New Director prize.  Among numerous international festivals, the film participated the Toronto International film Festival  in the Discovery Section, and set out for an acclaimed international career followed by many awards at many festivals worldwide.

Her film September (2013) premiered in the official competition of the 48th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival to critical acclaim, was nominated six times for the Hellenic Film Academy Awards where it  won  best leading  actress award and among others festivals , it has participated  in the Toronto, Goteborg , Rotterdam, Hong Kong IFF.

She has directed and produced a number of creative documentaries of an intense social and psychological background.

For  several years (2004 to 2008) she has taught  cinematography in the  Film Studies Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.  She is a Nipkow alumni (2010) and  a member of the European film Academy

Wishbone (2024) is her third film.
