On Tuesday 24 February at 19:00 and on Wednesday 25 February at 21:00 we will screen in cinema Utopia the film Boy Eating the Bird's Food (Greece, 2012, colour, 80 min) directed by Ektoras Lygizos. The film is in the original Greek version with French subtitles. It is not suitable for children. The film contains a scene which could offend some viewers.

Synopsis

The multi-awarded debut of Ektoras Lygizos tells the story of a young boy who tries to survive in the Athens of financial crisis. He is without a job, money or anything to eat. Unable to get his preferred job as a singer (or work at a call centre) he lives alone in his flat, with bills mounting up and no means of support or sustenance. After being thrown out on to the streets, he resorts to increasingly desperate measures to stay alive. The only thing that he seems to care for in life is his canary, with which he resolutely shares the little food and water that he has. 

The film is a shot in a powerful minimalist style, bravely stripping the plot down to almost observational documentary. At the centre of it all is Yannis Papadopoulos as the titular character, with an almost wordless performance that is full of despair and barely concealed madness. In every single scene, the intimacy of his portrayal is almost uncomfortable but resolutely astonishing.

The film premiered at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival – Official Competition, winning a special mention for the main actor, Yannis Papadopoulos and since then has traveled to more than 30 international film festivals around the world, collecting rave reviews and awards.

Η Ελληνική Κινηματογραφική Λέσχη Λουξεμβούργου θα προβάλει την Τρίτη 24 Φεβρουαρίου στις 19:00 και την Τετάρτη 25 Φεβρουαρίου στις 21:00 στον κινηματογράφο Utopia την ταινία Το Παιδί τρώει το Φαγητό του Πουλιού (Ελλάδα, 2012, 80', έγχρωμη) του Έκτορα Λυγίζου. Η ταινία θα προβληθεί στα ελληνικά με γαλλικούςυποτίτλους και είναι ακατάλληλη για παιδιά. Υπάρχει μια σκηνή στην ταινία που ίσως ενοχλήσει ορισμένους θεατές.

Ο 22χρονος Γιώργος ζει άνεργος σε ένα μικρό αθηναϊκό διαμέρισμα. Δεν έχει λεφτά όχι μόνο για να πληρώσει νερό και ρεύμα, αλλά ούτε για να φάει. Όταν θα μείνει και χωρίς σπίτι, παίρνει τους δρόμους μαζί με το καναρίνι του. 

Μοντέρνα, δραματουργικά μινιμαλιστική και σκηνοθετικά λιτή διασκευή της «Πείνας» του Κνουτ Χάμσουν, μια κατάβαση σε μια σύγχρονη αστική κόλαση. Σκληρές εικόνες, έντονη σωματική αίσθηση και μια κινηματογραφική γύμνια που αναστατώνει και συγκινεί. Τρία βραβεία (καλύτερης ταινίας, πρωτοεμφανιζόμενου σκηνοθέτη, πρώτου αντρικού ρόλου) από την Ελληνική Ακαδημία Κινηματογράφου και διακρίσεις σε πολλά διεθνή φεστιβάλ.

Le Ciné-club hellénique vous invite à ses séances du mardi 24 février à 19h00 et du mercredi 25 février à 21h00 au cinéma Utopia avec le film Le garçon qui mange la nourriture de l'oiseau écrit et réalisé par Ektoras Lygizos (Grèce, 2012, couleur, 80 min). Le film est en version originale grecque avec sous-titres en français. Enfants non admis. Le film contient une scène susceptible de choquer certains spectateurs.

Résumé

Pendant la crise grecque, un jeune homme est contraint de voler la nourriture des oiseaux pour survivre. Il s'agit d'une adaptation moderne du roman La Faim de l'écrivain norvégien Knut Hamsun, publié en 1890.

Yorgos est un jeune athénien de 22 ans, sans travail, sans argent et souvent sans rien à se mettre sous la dent. Les factures s’accumulent et malgré sa voix magnifique, il n’arrive pas à trouver cet emploi de chanteur qui le fait tant rêver. Dans son appartement à peine meublé, il survit tant bien que mal, partageant le peu de nourriture et d’eau avec son canari qu’il chérit et protège sans faillir…

Le film a été sélectionné pour représenter la Grèce aux Oscars du cinéma 2014 dans la catégorie meilleur film en langue étrangère. Il a été nominé aux plusieurs festivals internationaux. Il a reçu le prix du public du meilleur premier film international au Galway Film Fleadh 2013. L'acteur principal, Yiannis Papadopoulos, a reçu une mention spéciale au Festival international du film de Karlovy Vary 2012 et le prix du meilleur acteur au Festival international du film de Thessalonique 2012.
