Η Ελληνική Κινηματογραφική Λέσχη Λουξεμβούργου θα προβάλει την Τρίτη 24 Απριλίου στις 19.30 και την Τετάρτη 25 Απριλίου στις 21.30 στον κινηματογράφο Utopia, την ταινία του Σύλλα Τζουμέρκα Χώρα Προέλευσης (Ελλάδα, έγχρωμη, 2010, 106´, digital beta, αγγλικοί υπότιτλοι). Περίληψη
Στη δεκαετία του 1970, σε κάποιο νοσοκομείο της Ελλάδας, μια οικογένεια θα αναγκαστεί να πάρει μια σκληρή απόφαση: να δώσει για υιοθεσία το νεογέννητο μωρό της μιας αδερφής, την οποία οι υπόλοιποι συγγενείς έκριναν ακατάλληλη για να μεγαλώσει και δεύτερο παιδί, στον ωριμότερο και πιο 'τακτοποιημένο' οικογενειακά αδερφό της. Μια εικοσαετία αργότερα, το μυστικό αποκαλύπτεται και οι δεσμοί της οικογένειας έρχονται σε ρήξη, ενώ η χώρα βρίσκεται σε έντονες κοινωνικές αναταραχές.
Η Χώρα Προέλευσης είναι η ιστορία μιας χώρας και μιας οικογένειας σε ελεύθερη πτώση. Τρεις γενιές μιας οικογένειας (η γενιά του 50, η γενιά της μεταπολίτευσης και η νεώτερη γενιά), οδηγούνται σε μια σύγκρουση μέχρις εσχάτων εξαιτίας μιας ενδοοικογενειακής υιοθεσίας. Οι ήρωες, μέλη μια οικογένειας – ένας καθηγητής πανεπιστημίου, μια δασκάλα, ένας πωλητής κινητής τηλεφωνίας, μια νοσοκόμα, ένας γιατρός, μια άνεργη και μια υπάλληλος της κρατικής τηλεόρασης–, που ξεκινούν με τις καλύτερες προθέσεις, στο πέρασμα του χρόνου βλέπουν τις πράξεις τους να διαστρέφονται, τα αισθήματά τους να δοκιμάζονται, τη γνώμη τους να αμφισβητείται, την τάξη των πραγμάτων που οι ίδιοι θέσπισαν να κλονίζεται ανεπανόρθωτα.

On Tuesday 24 April at 19:30 and on Wednesday 25 April at 21:30 in cinema Utopia we will screen the feature film of Syllas Tzoumerkas Homeland (Greece, 2010, digital beta, colour, 106 min) in the Greek original version with Εnglish subtitles.
Film Summary
Gena, a mother of two boys, constantly unemployed and half-crazy, is considered an “inadequate” mother by her own family, and has her baby son adopted by her brother, a university professor, to be brought up together with his own daughter. A story about a family and a country falling apart, inspired by true events, Homeland narrates the chain of decisions that set off and crash on this incestuous and violent love story. Finally, death and madness tears the whole family apart.
'Homeland' is an explosive parable of Greece coming apart at the seams, shown through the spectrum of a very dysfunctional family. The film follows a family over three generations: growing up in the 50's after the restoration of democracy in Greece, then their lives during the 70's, and finally a look at the current generation.
Shot partly while the riots where taking place in the streets of Athens, Tzoumerkas said the film was evolving with the actual events at the time. By looking at the last 30 years in Greece through the eyes of the family he tried to find out where it all went wrong.

Biography
Syllas Tzoumerkas was born in 1978. He studied film-direction, theatre and acting in Athens, Utrecht and New York. He directed the awarded short films The Devouring Eyes (Official selection - Cinefondation - Cannes IFF 2001; Jury Prize - Karlovy Vary IFF 2001) and Rain (Best short film - Greek Film Awards 2002), and worked as a director for the prime-time TV-documentary shows Fakelοi and Paraskinio.
As an actor, he collaborated with the acclaimed devised theatre groups Blitz Ensemble and The Erasers.
His first feature film Homeland (2010), had its world premiere at the Critics' Week of the Venice IFF 2010.
